The Top 10 Worst Films of 2019
10. The Kitchen
The tenth spot on this list is reserved for, not necessarily a bad film, but for one that given the talent involved, should’ve worked. Based upon the Graphic Novel, “The Kitchen” tells the story of three women who are romantically involved with men connected to the Irish Mob. When the men are all thrown in jail, the three must band together to continue the men’s work, to avoid financial debt to themselves, and the community that depends on the mob. The leads are played by Elisabeth Moss, Tiffany Haddish, and Melissa McCarthy, in what seemed to be the perfect trio to pull this off. Unfortunately, a story that should’ve been about female empowerment, was just so lifeless on its execution. The film also failed to carry a consistent tone. It tried to be funny, with awkward results, it tried to be a crime drama, but failed to give the controversial story any type of spark. It was the definition of a missed opportunity.
10. Little Women
It has been 25 years since the last big screen adaptation of this popular novel about four sisters dealing with societies expectations of them versus what they want to accomplish in life. Hot off her success of Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig takes on writing and directing duties. Saoirse Ronan, who was nominated for best actress, in that film, takes on the role of the fiercely independent Jo. Also along for the ride are Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, who was seen in two 2019 films, Fighting with My Family, and the insane Midsommar, and Timothee Chalamet, who also starred with Ronan in Lady Bird and gave a brilliant dramatic turn in 2017’s Call me by Your Name. These are young performers who will bring Gerwig’s vision to life. Gerwig can write sharp and sassy dialogue, which will breathe new life into this classic tale.

Worst of 2018
10. Forever My Girl
Jessica Rothe is one of the more interesting talents that have come out of Hollywood in the last few years. From Happy Death Day, to her brief stint in La La Land, she is an actress who just has it. Even she couldn’t save this mess of a love story about a selfish musician, who left his pregnant wife at the altar and turned his back on his home town, to chase a life of music, booze, and women. We are presented with so much reason to hate this guy, especially what he did to Rothe’s Josie, but we all know they will end up together. The problem is that she welcomes him back with little to no fight. He uses his fame, charm, and winning looks to melt her into a pool of emotion. Come on, Josie! Put up a better fight than that! Not only for yourself, but for us, the audience, so that this film has some type of real conflict.
