With the pandemic ending, more and more people are starting to rejoin society, and many cities are ready to welcome back their citizens. New York has always been a place popular in both film and the real world. Even the most basic film fan can name one iconic scene from a favorite film that takes place in the Big Apple. Hardcore cinephiles can even name directors that center their stories in the city that never sleeps. Recently, Lin-Manuel Miranda put the spotlight on the Upper East side with Official. In the new film Dating and New York, we are once again presented with a love story between two 20 somethings that unfolds in the unforgettable city.

What is avant-garde creativity in a quasi-apocalyptic post-Covid world that’s still recovering from the surreal nightmare of Donald Trump-era politics? Man Under Table OR: I’m Writing a Movie, Noel David Taylor’s feature-length directorial debut film, magnifies these questions. It works against conventions and viewer expectations to macably majestic effect. A film like this deserves an uncommon review. Review – Come To Daddy (2019) : Fantasia International Film Festival!

My third film on Day 3 of the festival was the Canadian Premiere of the thriller Come to Daddy, a co-production between New Zealand, Canada, and Ireland. The film had its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival back in April. It played in several other festivals before landing in Montreal and it has upcoming screenings at the  FrightFest in London, UK in August and at the Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya in Sitges, Spain in October.
