On this episode, Nile Fortner speaks with scream queen, horror icon, Emmy Winner, the legendary and lovely, Lin Shaye. Lin discusses with Nile her new film The Call, which follows a group of friends in 1987 who tormented an elderly woman suspected to be a witch. Once she dies, the friends agree to a 60-second phone call that’s in the elderly woman’s casket. However, someone on the other line picks up. Lin also discusses with Nile, what it was like working with Saw’s Tobin Bell, would she ever consider directing a horror film, and more on this podcast episode.

When I saw the trailer for Netflix’s new film, The Devil All The Time, I was surprised that I hadn’t heard a lot about it given the cast, but a dark tale of pre-Vietnam Americana bolstered by some big names, I was interested. Having not read the book, I can’t say how it works as an adaptation but on its own merits, this is a pretty damn good flick if a little bit heavy on the grimness.

Briarcliff Entertainment announced today the acquisition of domestic distribution rights to THE DISSIDENT, the highly anticipated film from Bryan Fogel (Academy Award-winning director of ICARUS), and today they released the film’s first trailer. Following the film’s world premiere at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to rave reviews, Briarcliff is planning a theatrical and VOD release in late 2020 along with other events to coincide with the second anniversary of Jamal Khashoggi’s assassination. HanWay Films will handle international sales of the film. UTA Independent Film Group orchestrated both the domestic distribution deal, and the international sales deal on behalf of the filmmaking team.
