Day 2 of the Fantasia Festival has commenced and there are two films on my schedule. I started the evening with the Canadian premiere of the Australian thriller Killing Ground that was a sold out screening.

Come out, come out, wherever you are!
From Stanley Kubrick’s classic psychological thriller, The Shining comes the Torrance family! They live in the creepy, mountain-isolated Overlook Hotel, but we won’t hold that against them, as they are now receiving the Pop! vinyl treatment!

In Theaters September 29 and on VOD and Digital HD October 3
Syfy Films today announces the release of the upcoming sci-fi film REALIVE, in theaters on September 29 and on VOD and Digital HD on October 3. The film is written and directed by Mateo Gil (“Vanilla Sky,” “The Sea Inside”). The cast includes Tom Hughes (“About Time,” “London Town”), Charlotte Le Bon (“The Walk,” “The Hundred-Foot Journey”), Oona Chaplin (“Taboo,” “Game of Thrones”) and Barry Ward (“The Fall,” “The Journey,”). REALIVE premiered at the 2016 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal followed by official selections of the FrightFest Film Festival in the U.K. and Sitges International Film Festival in Spain.

I’m gonna take some cues from Walter White and tread lightly on this review, part of what makes Killing Ground so great is how it utilizes a unique narrative technique in order to tell its story. In doing so, allow itself to hit some really disturbing and sickening moments that other horror films wouldn’t go near. This is gonna be a must for genre fans, but go in blind to get the full effect of what the film wants to put you through.

In horror, one name reigns supreme. Our good friends at Warner Bros. studios have announced ‘The King of Horror Collection’ is available on Blu-Ray 8/29!
Stay scared my friends!

Nile reviews the 80’s horror classic ‘Motel Hell’ in the first video of the ‘Retro Reviews’ series.

by Nile Fortner
This is a movie I have been looking forward to for a very long time. With a title like ‘It Comes at Night,’ the eerie trailers, the visually appealing posters, the A24 entertainment company who made The Witch and Ex Machina (two movies I love), and from all the marketing, I was expecting one of the best horror movies this year. Yay for horror movies! Who doesn’t love a good horror flick, a good spook to the spine every so often? I love horror movies, and it is actually one of my favorite genres. Unfortunately, us “horror heads” don’t get the most original or best treatment in the land of Hollywood. In my opinion, the best horror films lately have been foreign or independent. This is why I was looking forward to this somewhat “small budget under the radar” horror movie.
