Review – The Suicide Squad (2021)

Looking back on the first Suicide Squad, it’s clear that DC were looking to capture some of Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy hype by making their own gang of anti-hero misfits with a rocking 70s soundtrack. The difference being that Guardians Of The Galaxy was crafted to balance the ragtag humor with some well-earned emotional depth. While Suicide Squad was cobbled together by a committee that had heard Guardians and its soundtrack was really good, but didn’t actually see the movie to understand what made them work so well.

Review – RAMBO: Last Blood (2019)

John Rambo is a relic of an older and wilder time in cinema. He’s a former soldier who came home only to be thrown back into the world of violence and murder. The chaos of war runs through his veins. Eleven years ago, after a 20 year hiatus, Stallone, who was 62 at the time, came back with a kick ass action movie that was unforgiving with its level of gore. It was a great call back to the films of the 80s too. Now, the aging action star, who can still kick the ass of people more than half his age, is back with another story for his memorable action hero. Does he still have it?

10. Little Women

It has been 25 years since the last big screen adaptation of this popular novel about four sisters dealing with societies expectations of them versus what they want to accomplish in life. Hot off her success of Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig takes on writing and directing duties. Saoirse Ronan, who was nominated for best actress, in that film, takes on the role of the fiercely independent Jo. Also along for the ride are Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, who was seen in two 2019 films, Fighting with My Family, and the insane Midsommar, and Timothee Chalamet, who also starred with Ronan in Lady Bird and gave a brilliant dramatic turn in 2017’s Call me by Your Name. These are young performers who will bring Gerwig’s vision to life. Gerwig can write sharp and sassy dialogue, which will breathe new life into this classic tale.
