Review – The Nun (2018) **31 Days of Horror**

The Nun is the new entry in The Conjuring cinematic universe. It expands upon the legend of an evil spirit that takes the form of a hideous nun. The universe has been the go to for those who want to be dropped into a world of the supernatural, instead of one full of superheroes. Annabelle was the first standalone film based on the findings of real life couple Ed and Lorraine Warren. Of course, major liberties have been taken, but each of these films follow the same beats as the ones that proceed them. Does this one add anything new to the universe or is it just one that will get lost in the shuffle as more of these are to be made in the near future?

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Comes to Indonesia

A young group of naïve kids pick up a hitchhiking stranger and their kindness will lead to suffering and gore. We’ve seen this horror formula again-and-again in films. The 2009 Indonesian horror film Macabre does follow this similar formula and the usual clichés. However, Macabre is worth sinking your teeth into and delivers on the cannibal carnage.

Review – Mission: Impossible Fallout (2018)

The run-up for Mission Impossible: Fallout put the film in a very interesting position and not just because of the moustache fiasco – for the first time in the franchise’s history there was a direct sequel with the same director returning. Given the success of the franchise so far it’s unsurprising that they would try something different to keep things fresh and while I don’t agree that this is the best Mission to date, Fallout does prove that long-form storytelling might be in the series future.
