Oscar nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards have been announced. Joker leads the contenders with 11 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Todd Phillips.  Close behind we have The IrishmanOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood, and 1917 10 nominations each, including Best Picture, Director, and corresponding screenplay nominations. We are in a point in history where people are at odds with the news media. While some people swear by CNN/MSNBC, others think that FOX News are the ones who tell the truth. Even our own President has weighed in by creating a catchphrase to describe his feelings about the news organizations. Back in 1996, an event happened that threw a good man through the ringer, and even though he came out clean, it changed his life until his death in 2007. It was a story of a misunderstood hero who was wrongly accused by the press and FBI. Hollywood legend, Clint Eastwood, has decided to bring this story to the big screen.  Is it more like wonderful American Sniper or the mundane The 15:17 to Paris?

Review – A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)

Having Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers is a great idea for a movie. In fact, it’s a surprise that having America’s most loved and friendliest movie star playing one of the best human beings to ever exist took this long to even happen. But from there, the work should already be done for you and you don’t have to try that hard. Director Marielle Heller, though, knows a cool idea isn’t always enough to maintain a movie. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood wisely decides to use what we know about the children’s TV show host, Fred Rogers, to create a character study focusing on how the incredible power he had on people could affect real change, even in one person.
