Review – US (2019)

by Kevin Muller

There are movies, like any entry out of The Fast and the Furious series, that you invest time, marvel at the action, say something positive, or negative, about it, and then walk out of the theater. Sure, you may talk about it with your friends about the physic defying action, but it won’t hit you the way Jordan Peele’s new film Us does. You will go through all the motions mentioned, but it isn’t a film you will react to, but let sink in and digest. It’s the type of movie that throws so much at you, most of it works, and rattles your brain. It’s a very ambitious and worthy follow up to his first film, Get Out, which won him acclaim and an Academy Award for “Best Original Screenplay.”

Review – US (2019)

by Old King Clancy

I’m not sure how this review is gonna go down because a large part of me is still trying to decipher this film. After Get Out, I was very much looking forward to more of what Peele had to bring to the horror circuit and Us looked like another winner. My initial thoughts though were good, but flawed, and yet after doing some reading I’m slowly coming around to the film. I still think that Jordan Peele is one of the most interesting voices to come out of modern horror and he’s got plenty more to say, but Us might cause a bit of rift when people talk about him.

Oscars 2018 – Predictions

by Kevin Muller

Most people get excited for the beginning of the year due to the proximity of the Superbowl to the New Year.  For me, I also get the Academy Awards, which is the Superbowl for film fans.  Though the Patriots, and Brady, losing to a team who never won and that no one believed in, was maybe the greatest narratives of the year.  Let’s see who is nominated in each of these major categories, along with my personal picks, and who I think will take an Oscar home.

Review – Get Out

getout-poster-161004

by Nile Fortner

Get Out is the new film brought to you by one-half of the comedy duo Key & Peele, Jordan Peele (Key & Peele, Keanu). It is a dark comedy and a horror film, that currently has a 99 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. So I can imagine that this film is really good.

The movie focuses on a cute and young interracial couple. Chris, played by Daniel Kaluuya (Johnny English Reborn, Sicario) and his girlfriend Rose, played by Allison Williams (Peter Pan Live!) are at that stage where they have reached a milestone in their relationship and are getting ready for the first encounter. They’re at the point in their relationship where Rose wants Chris to meet her parents. Were you expecting me to say they are having a different kind of encounter? Get your mind outta the gutter for a second.

Review #2 – Keanu

1401x788-Key-&-Peele02

by Kevin Muller

Back in the early 2000’s, Dave Chappelle reigned supreme on Comedy Central with his sketch comedy show “Chappelle’s Show.” It was witty, hilarious, and incredibly smart. When he walked away from it, and the millions of dollars that Comedy Central supposedly threw at him to stay, the network was quick to find a comedian that could fill that void. The question was, could Comedy Central ever find someone even with half the talent that Chappelle possessed?
