“The Dark Tower” is an epic that can be best described as an unforgettable experience.   The themes, plot, characters, and scope of the story is unmatched.  It is something that should be sought out by anyone who wants to partake in something that will stand the test of time.   Well, that is what I have heard about the novel.   My admiration for Stephen King stands with “IT”, which will have its own movie out next month.   I walked into “The Dark Tower” only knowing the basic knowledge of the source material so I strictly judged it as a film.   Even then, I saw a movie is a broken, incomplete, and a lazy affair that definitely fails the source material.

Celebrate ‘The Lost Boys’ 30th Anniversary with the Sequel Comic!

It’s the 30th Anniversary of the vampire cult-classic film, The Lost Boys, and Vertigo is celebrating with the release of a new sequel comic collected edition! THE LOST BOYS is the comic sequel to the nostalgic ‘80s thriller, marking the return of the Frog and Emerson brothers. The town of Santa Clara has long been a haven to an unruly threat—a group of vampires busy feasting on the locals. And now, following the events that led to the death of the coven’s head vampire, Michael and Sam and the rest of the city are attempting a return to a “normal” life—but that won’t last long. Soon, Michael and Sam Emerson find themselves, once again, immersed into the dark and twisted world of vampires, and in need of help from the militant vampire hunters Edgar and Allan Frog. Writer Tim Seeley (NIGHTWING, Hack/Slash) and artist Scott Godlewski (THE DARK & BLOODY, Copperhead) deliver a gruesome and stylish return to the bloody boardwalks of Santa Clara. The comic trade is available next Wednesday 8/9, in comic stores, and available everywhere books are sold Tuesday, 8/15.

Chiller Films Releases ‘DEMENTIA 13’

Chiller Films announces today the release of the upcoming horror thriller DEMENTIA 13, in theaters on October 6, 2017 and on VOD and Digital HD on October 10, 2017. This retelling of Francis Ford Coppola’s 1963 film of the same name is directed by Richard LeMay (“The Dark Rite,” “Naked As We Come”) and is written by Dan DeFilippo (“The Invaders,” “Chilling Visions: 5 Sates of Fear”) and Justin Smith (SiREN, THE BOY).  The cast includes Julia Campanelli (“Walking Away”), Ana Isabelle (“The Eye,” “Lost Cat Corona”), Marianne Noscheze (“Horror Time”), Channing Pickett (“Redheads Anonymous”) and Christian Ryan (“Celebrity Ghost Stories,” “Casters”).

A Conversation with Marko Zaror

On this episode of the Cinephellas Podcast, I’m talking with Marko Zaror about his role in film Savage Dog. The film is written and directed by Jesse V. Johnson and produced in association with our good friends XLrator Media. It stars Scott Adkins in the origin story of the myth that gives itself to the title. Set in Indochina at an anarchic moment in 1959, the story takes place after the French military had left the area and a few years before the American presence during the Vietnam War. The region is filled with Vietnamese warlords and European war criminals avoiding prosecution in the wake of both World War II and the Korean War. Scott Adkins plays “Martin Tillman,” a former-champion boxer that ends up stuck competing in an underground fighting ring, battling for his life. That’s until he’s forced on a journey of revenge. Marko Zaror plays “Rastignac,” the man responsible for destroying Martin’s last vestiges of hope.

Review – Bad Genius (2017) Fantasia International Film Festival!

On Day 4 of the Fantasia Festival, I had one screening in the afternoon. This film tempted me very much after reading about it and watching the trailer. And it seems I was not the only one to be interested because it was the first of two sold out screenings (ed.: they’ve now added a third screening). A guy even offered me $40 for my ticket that I paid $9 for while I was waiting in the line to enter the theater! This was the Canadian Premiere of the Thai film Bad Genius (Chalard Games Goeng or Chalat Kem Kong, the latter of which is, apparently, the transliteration of it’s original title ฉลาดเกมส์โกง in Thai script).
