The year is 2045. Wade Watts lives with his aunt and her deadbeat boyfriend in shady part of Columbus, Ohio. Like most of his peers, Wade spends most his time fleeing from his problems by getting lost in a virtual reality called the OASIS. The game was created by the late James Halliday. The objective of the game is to obtain 3 keys that lead to a prize, granting the winner Halliday’s fortune, and complete ownership over the OASIS. Teaming up with his friends, the High Five, Watts goes on the biggest Easter egg hunt of his life.

After making its critically acclaimed debut at Sundance last year, Cory Finley’s Thoroughbreds finally saw the light of day last weekend. The film was originally titled Thoroughbred, but shortly after the premiere, Focus Features acquired the distribution rights and decided to make changes to its name. Currently with a certified fresh rating of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, first time director has certainly maintained an exquisite status with critics.

2017 was a fantastic year for movies. Like most years, the Academy left out many Oscar worthy contenders. For example, I personally thought The Florida Project was snubbed for a Best Picture nomination, along with a few other categories.
