Review – The Dark Mile (2017) Edinburgh Film Festival

At the time of writing I’ve sat on The Dark Mile for just over a full day trying to work out my thoughts on the film. Not that I didn’t like it, in fact, it’s probably the best film I’ve seen at this year’s Festival so far. It’s an experience that I guarantee will piss a lot of people off and trying to recommend it is going to prove difficult, due to the film’s own encouragement that “the less you know the better.”

Review – Sweet Virginia (2017) Edinburgh Film Festival

With TV currently in it’s Golden Age, a lot of genres have proven to work better with a long-form series rather than a one-off entry; case in point, crime thriller with the likes of Fargo and Twin Peaks making the most of their extended run-time. I bring this up because while it’s very easy to tell when a movie needs to be cut shorter, new Alaskan thriller Sweet Virginia is one of those rare films that could benefit from being longer.

Review – God’s Own Country (2017) Edinburgh Film Festival

God’s Own Country has been described as Yorkshire’s answer to Brokeback Mountain which I think is doing both films a disservice. Brokeback was more of a period piece, dealing with the love of two men in a society that hated them, whereas God’s Own Country tackled a much more personal story about the love between two men when one of them hates themselves. It tackles self-destruction with a deft hand that evokes Mike Leigh’s work, but with a modern sensibility towards homosexual sex and romance.

STORM KING COMICS ANNOUNCES C2E2 FESTIVITIES!

 

 

Pop culture fans are giddy with excitement for the Midwest’s largest pop culture comicon C2E2 which begins April 21st in Chicago. Storm King Comics will be exhibiting and bringing con exclusives, giveaways, talent, and more! Con attendees will get a FREE SIGNED poster from the upcoming series John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction at booth #418 ONLY IF they say the secret password. Attendees can get the code word on Twitter at https://twitter.com/JCsAsylum or by downloading the C2E2 App and walking the convention floor. Writer/editor producer Sandy King Carpenter (They Live, Vampires) and writer James Ninness (Dust, John Carpenter’s Tales for a HalloweeNight) will be on hand for signings. Both creators are part of the new title John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction:Vault that hits stores this July and will be revealing more about the book in a livestream interview at the convention’s Twitch stage Saturday April 22nd at noon CST.

The Cinephellas Collection Has Arrived!

One thing you may have not known about Cinephellas is that we are avid collector’s. We have been collecting movie posters, Bobble Heads, Funkos, comics, and memorabilia for over ten years throughout the many conventions and places we have visited. If you ever stop by the Cinephellas Studios, you can witness the “haven for the collector” first hand, and realize the love we have for these collectibles.

Today, we wanted to share the first segment of our Funko Collection with all of you in anticipation of the C2E2 Convention coming up next weekend.  We hope to hit the convention floor and grab some Funko exclusives to share with all of you. C2E2 will be in Chicago from April 21st-23rd!!

Today ReedPOP, the world’s premier producer of pop culture events, unveiled this year’s Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) show poster.

Created by artist Declan Shalvey – known for his work on Image Comics’ Injection with Warren Ellis and Marvel’s Deadpool – the poster is a unique take on Marvel’s ALL-NEW GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY leaping into action against a view of Chicago’s Michigan Avenue at night(shown below).

 

C2E2 takes place April 21-23 at Chicago’s McCormick Place and tickets are on sale now. This year’s event features blockbuster talent including, the stars of Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo and Finn Wolfhard, Jon Bernthal from Daredevil, Mike Colter from Luke Cage, The Walking Dead’s Michael Cudlitz, Avenger’s creator Stan lee and more, with additional guests to be announced.
