The most important thing a film can do is make you feel something. Most of the time, we expect to walk out of the cinema feeling inspired or uplifted. That is fine, but certain films conjure certain feelings within us that are not always positive. The 1978 film, The Deer Hunter, was a bleak look at the mental anguish that war, specifically Vietnam, can have on former soldiers. One of the reasons it won best picture was because it took viewers on a journey where they encountered many types of emotions, mostly ones of horror, despair, and hopelessness. These are the same feelings you will face when watching Todd Phillip’s new film about the origins of the “Prince of Crime.” It isn’t a pleasurable experience, but a well-made one that really dives into the darkness of the character.

I’d not heard of Skin when it made it’s way to me, but the topic of a reformed white supremacist in today’s racially charged world with the backing of A24, I was interested to see how it played out. While I can see what the film is going for, I think it’s missing a few key steps in making the whole thing work properly.

On Friday, March 17, 2017, I decided to see The Belko Experiment. The theater was flooded with parents, and their little girls wearing yellow dresses, tutus with matching tiaras, and fully engaging themselves for the premiere of the new live action Disney movie Beauty and the Beast.
Beauty and the Beast has been getting major buzz for the last few months now, and even I would love to see this movie. Yeah, that’s right. Your ol’ tough boy from the hard streets has a soft spot for that love story! I’m just kidding; the only hard streets I’ve seen is the cracked sidewalk by my local CVS Pharmacy.
