Review- Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

by Armando Vanegas

To begin, I’m a casual Star Wars fan. I enjoy them enough to say that I have fun just going along for the ride with the characters. I can’t say that I know all the minor characters and can name all the different ships and the droids. I don’t watch the cartoons or read the Extended Universe books. I will say though that The Mandalorian is doing a nice job at being a fun Western story that just happens to take place in the Star Wars universe. Star Wars is just a thing to me that exists that I have no ownership to and that doesn’t owe it to me to give me what I want. But in this day and age, the internet has allowed people to complain about many things, including movies. We can’t even go through watching sci-fi action movies made for the family without causing controversy these days. The Last Jedi wasn’t amazing to me, but it was a movie that made some interesting choices. I liked what it was doing with the universe and director Rian Johnson gave the franchise a chance to go in a new direction. But, no one can be happy with what they have and Disney decided to bring back J.J. Abrams to direct the last movie of the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Let’s see if this movie was willing to continue on the path that TLJ laid out or they were going to backtrack and attempt to correct what never needed correcting. Spoiler alert: they end up doing the latter. Continue reading

Darth Vader is Back in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story!

darth1

by Logan Myerz

There has been much speculation that the most famous villain in cinematic history would be returning in the new Star Wars film, Rogue One. But it has been confirmed via Entertainment Weekly that the galactic man in black… no, not Johnny Cash… the heavy breathing Sith Lord, Darth Vader will be returning to the big screen in 2016. On the recent cover of Entertainment Weekly Magazine, it’s hard to miss the bold lettering “DARTH VADER IS BACK!”

The director of this film, Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), had big shoes to fill with the recent blockbuster success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but that didn’t stop him with crafting a stand alone film that showcases how the Rebellion found the schematics and flaw in the Empire’s weapon of mass destruction. If THAT doesn’t sound enticing, I don’t know what does. Rogue One: A Stars Wars Story is already in the process of reshoots this month after the Disney executives were not thrilled with the final product of this film.  This isn’t the first time that studio interference has got in the way of the film making process, as JJ Abrams went through the same thing with the last Star Wars film. Whatever this means, we know it’s for a good cause and I’m sure the final product that hits theaters this December will shatter box office records. It’s hard to conclude how much time Darth Vader will be in this film, but it will for sure leave an imprint on the audience and fans across the galaxy.  We can expect further details on Rogue One throughout the week and more insight on the direction of this film as the clock winds down to the release date later this year.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set for release on December 16th, 2016.
