Cinephellas Flashback: Logan’s Interview with Bruce Campbell

As we’re sure you’re aware, Ash Vs. Evil Dead recently began its second season. We’re all huge fans of Mr. Campbell’s work, and we thought it would be appropriate to revisit Logan’s unpublished-on-Cinephellas interview with the legend himself.

When you hear “Hail To The King” you may think Heisenberg or even Elvis Presley, but there is one answer….Bruce Fucking Campbell. He is the one go-to actor that stays true to his craft and perfects many roles that can be viewed throughout film and TV over the past thirty years. I have had the opportunity to meet him numerous times at various Comic Cons and Horror conventions, but never had the chance to pick his brain one-on-one. As you could imagine when you talk to one of your biggest influences, it’s hard to keep your composure, and not look like a total “She-bitch.”

If you have been locked up the past year, then you probably haven’t heard of the return of Ash Williams on the Starz network in the show, Ash Vs. Evil Dead. But if you are like me, you have been patiently awaiting the return of Ash and all those horrid and grotesque deadites. Ash is probably one of the most iconic characters in horror till this day and it’s a huge deal that a character at this caliber is returning in a TV show.

I had the opportunity to view the first episode of the second season of Ash Vs. Evil Dead and it was nothing short of groovyyyy.  This is a series that doesn’t “play it safe,” and is splattered with gore and violence that goes straight for the jugular in the opening minutes of the episode “Home.”

Today, I got the pleasure to talk to Bruce Campbell about producing and starring in the Starz show, Ash Vs. Evil Dead, his previous Evil Dead films, and the craziness that has ensued over the past thirty years.

EXCLUSIVE: Logan sits down with James Frecheville!

jamesfrecheville

In a tech savvy world, we are all wrapped up in social media, smart phones, and putting all of our information out on the internet for anyone to look at. Hacking is a major global issue today that raises the question “is privacy a privilege?” I have been working in the I.T. industry for some time and have seen many lives ruined by not being aware of the downfalls of the internet.  This includes updating banking information, social security numbers, and personal photos. In today’s society, is it possible to have a stress free and fulfilling life without a social media presence?  The answer is yes and I condone anyone to go back to the days of person to person genuine conversation.

Today, I sat down with the star of the new tech thriller, I.T., James Frecheville who is no stranger to the film industry. He starred in 2014’s “The Drop” alongside Tom Hardy and was in the hit Australian film, Animal Kingdom. We spoke about playing a tech mastermind, filming with the legendary Pierce Brosnan, how the world is obsessed with the internet, and what can happen if you are not careful with your personal information. It is my pleasure to introduce James Frecheville…

Check out Westworld on HBO this Sunday!

westworld-poster

The one-hour drama series WESTWORLD kicks off its ten-episode season SUNDAY, OCT. 2 at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT), exclusively on HBO. Created for television by Jonathan Nolan (“Interstellar,” “The Dark Knight,” “Person of Interest”) & Lisa Joy (“Pushing Daisies,” “Burn Notice”), both of whom are executive producing and writing, with Nolan directing, the series is based on the 1973 film “Westworld,” written by Michael Crichton.

Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, WESTWORLD is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin, exploring a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

Co-creator Nolan explains, “Building on the incredibly evocative concept of the original film, we wanted to pose the question: If you could be completely immersed in a fantasy, one in which you could do whatever you wanted, would you discover things about yourself that you didn’t want to know?”

Co-creator Joy adds, “We also wanted to explore what it means to be human from the outside in – through the eyes of the ‘hosts’: the lifelike AI characters that are the main attractions of the park. It’s a meditation on consciousness – the blessing and the burden of it – beautifully portrayed by our remarkable cast.”

WESTWORLD stars Anthony Hopkins (Academy Award® winner for “The Silence of the Lambs”; Academy Award® nominee for “Remains of the Day,” “Nixon,” “Amistad”), Ed Harris (Golden Globe winner and Emmy® nominee for HBO’s “Game Change”; Academy Award® nominee for “Pollock,” “Apollo 13”), Evan Rachel Wood (Golden Globe nominee for “Thirteen”; Emmy® and Golden Globe nominee for HBO’s “Mildred Pierce”), James Marsden (the “X-Men” films), Thandie Newton (“Mission: Impossible II”) and Jeffrey Wright (HBO’s “Confirmation”; Emmy® and Golden Globe winner for HBO’s “Angels in America”).

The series also stars Tessa Thompson (“Creed”), Sidse Babett Knudsen (“Borgen”), Jimmi Simpson (HBO’s “The Newsroom”), Rodrigo Santoro (“Focus,” “The 33”), Shannon Woodward (“Raising Hope”), Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (“Chernobyl Diaries”), Ben Barnes (“The Chronicles of Narnia” films), Simon Quarterman (“The Devil Inside”), Angela Sarafyan (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”), Luke Hemsworth (“Infini”) and Clifton Collins, Jr. (“Star Trek”).

Among WESTWORLD’s main players are: Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins), the brilliant, taciturn and complicated creative director, chief programmer and founder of Westworld, who has an uncompromising creative vision for the park. The Man in Black (Ed Harris) is the distillation of pure villainy into one man. Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) is a provincial, beautiful and kind rancher’s daughter, who begins to discover that her entire idyllic existence is an elaborately constructed lie.

Teddy Flood (James Marsden), a new arrival to a small frontier town, quickly proves both his charm and talent with a revolver. Beautiful, razor-sharp madam Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton) has a genius for reading people and a knack for survival, but her seen-it-all-before worldview is about to be challenged. Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright) is the brilliant and quixotic head of the park’s Programming Division, whose keen observation of human nature provides him with boundless inspiration for his life’s work: creating artificial people.

Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) is a mysterious and savvy provocateur with a unique perspective on Westworld. Theresa Cullen (Sidse Babett Knudsen), Westworld’s head of Quality Assurance, is responsible for keeping the park from sliding into unscripted chaos. A first-time visitor, William (Jimmi Simpson) is initially wary of the park’s more lascivious attractions, but slowly uncovers a deeper meaning.

Hector Escaton (Rodrigo Santoro), Westworld’s perennial “most wanted” bandit, subscribes to the theory that the West is a wild place, and the only way to survive is to embrace the role of predator. Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward), a sardonic rising star in the Behavior Department, is charged with diagnosing the odd quirks of behavior in the park’s hosts. Armistice (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) is a savage fighter and brutal bandit, whose ruthlessness is surpassed only by her abiding loyalty to her fellow outlaws.

Logan (Ben Barnes) is a veteran guest whose hedonistic romp through the park is equally motivated by self-indulgence and a desire to help his friend, William. Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) is the head of Narrative, whose storylines tantalize the guests, while his temperament grates on his colleagues. Clementine Pennyfeather (Angela Sarafyan), one of Westworld’s most popular attractions, is perfectly beguiling, by design.

Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) is the no-nonsense head of Security, charged with monitoring host and human interactions and ensuring the safety of the guests. Lawrence (Clifton Collins, Jr.), a charming but lethal outlaw, has a knack for maneuvering and negotiating the various criminal elements of Westworld.

DC Signs Humphries to Create Content for DC and Vertigo

sam-humphries-signs-to-create-content-solely-for-dc-and-vertigo

DC Entertainment continues to expand its roster of top name talent, announcing today that it has reached an agreement with writer Sam Humphries (GREEN LANTERNS) to create comic book content solely for the publisher’s DC and Vertigo imprints.

Reflecting on bringing his talents to DC, Humphries said, “I am thrilled to be writing at DC Entertainment. Today’s announcement takes an already spectacular creative partnership to the next level.”

Humphries’ first assignment was teaming up with artist Robson Rocha for the highly anticipated GREEN LANTERNS. Humphries talent for strong character writing has resulted in an elevated status for Geoff Johns’ creations Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz within the DC Universe.

“We’re very excited to have Sam come to DC,” said DC’s Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras. “Sam is telling human stories that readers are emotionally connecting to, which is what being a Green Lantern is all about. Jessica and Simon are in great hands.”

Fans can look forward to Sam’s next story arc, The Phantom Lantern, in October when Simon and Jessica face an ancient predecessor to the Green Lantern’s rings that has all the power of a Lantern ring with none of the safeguards.

“Rebirth is an exciting time in comics, where nothing is impossible,” continued Humphries. “The Green Lanterns have one of the most storied legacies in comics, and never has the future felt so epic. Getting to write things like a new oath for the Phantom Lantern… as a creator you feel the history, and you feel the excitement for what’s to come.”

Humphries is the newest name to be added to DC’s roster of talent. DC has also recently signed artists Liam Sharp (WONDER WOMAN), Andy Kubert (DARK KNIGHT III), writers Dan Abnett (TITANS, AQUAMAN), Amanda Conner (HARLEY QUINN), James Tynion IV (DETECTIVE COMICS) and more. Stay tuned for more upcoming announcements as DC continues to expand its talent pool.

Batgirl gets a new artist!

Batgirl_Wildgoose_2.jpg

This January, Batgirl is headed home— with a new artist and new villain to kick off the next arc! Artist Christian Wildgoose (GOTHAM ACADEMY) will take over art duties once Rafael Albuquerque’s run concludes with BATGIRL #6. Wildgoose joins writer Hope Larson upon Batgirl’s return home in “Son of Penguin.” Since the launch of Rebirth, Barbara Gordon has left Burnside and Gotham behind for some well-earned time off. Traveling to Japan, Singapore and more she’s been on a quest to train with the most elite masters of the East— as well as taking a break from her everyday crimefighting life. But where she goes, danger always follows.

“I’m still in shock to be working on Batgirl, probably more so than the readers, so I’m feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves as I take on one of my favorite characters,” says Wildgoose. “Despite any nerves, I know I’m in safe hands working with Hope. She’s doing an awesome job with her current run and I’m looking forward to teaming up with her.  After Rafael’s run, I know I have some pretty big yellow boots to fill. Hope and Rafael’s amazing work makes Batgirl larger than life and I hope to keep their fire and energy burning. Most of all, I’m going to have fun. I think that’s something even Batgirl would approve of.”
In BATGIRL #7, the Batgirl we know and love returns to Burnside to find an entirely different city than the one she left behind. Due to a boom in tech start-up companies, Burnside is now trendier than ever, leaving Babs to feel out of place in her newly gentrified neighborhood. But it’s not all a loss. She’ll soon meet a dashing and handsome techie named Ethan, only to find out that her striking beau has a familiar last name—Cobblepot! Will her new found romance bring her more trouble than she was ready for? You’ll have to find out.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Christian on this next arc, which will bring Batgirl back to her familiar stomping grounds in Burnside,” says writer Hope Larson. “You can never really go home again, and a lot has changed since she left, both in her friends’ lives and in Burnside, which is rapidly becoming even more gentrified. Most interestingly of all, there’s a new player on the scene: charming, handsome, tech-savvy, and possibly evil Ethan Cobblepot, the Penguin’s son. Christian’s art is fresh, charming, and delightful, and he’s the perfect artist to bring this story to life.”

Check out these beautiful promo pieces from Christian Wildgoose here! The new arc “Son of Penguin” debuts January 25th in BATGIRL #7.
